Painted as a commission for the Cerasi Chapel in Rome, this 1601 masterpiece depicts St. Peter being crucified upside-down by three roman executioners.
In stark contrast with the black background, St. Peter and the executioners are painted in bright, vivid colors. St. Peter twists and lifts his head to look directly at the viewer. The work is very detailed, even including the shovel with which they dug the hole for the cross.
Make your home a cathedral - a place to die to the world daily, but live always in Christ - with The Crucifixion of St. Peter.
